Jio Partners Uber For JioMoney Based Digital Payment

Reliance-JioMoney

Reliance Jio, the telecom services arm of Reliance Industries, today partnered with world’s largest taxi hailing service provider Uber to make JioMoney a mode of digital payment for the Uber riders. This means, next time you book an Uber taxi, you will be able to pay the fare using JioMoney, the digital wallet from Reliance Jio Infocomm.

“As part of the partnership, Jio and Uber will work together and explore various opportunities to progressively enrich and enhance the Digital Life experience of their users through complementary programmes,” Jio said in a statement announcing a strategic partnership.

So what exactly it brings for customers of each partner?

Now onwards, Uber riders get one more option or means to make a digital payment using their JioMoney account. It adds to the users’ convenience. And for JioMoney users, it brings little more -the users now can book an Uber taxi directly from the mobile wallet app and can pay for it using the app.

“Jio aims to bring the benefits of evolving digital technologies to every Indian through an entire ecosystem that will allow Indians to live Digital Life to the fullest. JioMoney is an integral part of the Jio ecosystem and is fast emerging as a preferred option for digital transactions due to its ease of use, intuitive interface and growing acceptability. JioMoney’s integration with Uber will power the rapid migration of many more Uber transactions to the digital platform,” said Anirban S Mukherjee, Business Head, JioMoney.

“We are delighted to partner with Reliance Jio to unlock synergies across two of the largest user bases in India. Digital payments have become part of our everyday lives and by integrating JioMoney as a payment option, our riders will have the ability to use a familiar and consistent payment experience. Through this strategic partnership we are looking to fast forward to digital solutions at scale for the Indian users,” said Madhu Kannan, Chief Business Officer, India and Emerging Markets for Uber.

To celebrate the association, JioMoney and Uber will offer exclusive incentives to every user paying for Uber rides through the mobile wallet. The offers, however, are not yet announced.

Starting today, Uber will gradually rollout the JioMoney payment option for its users across the country.

Paytm Gets RBI Nod To Start Payments Bank Services

paytm-payments-bank

Paytm today got permission from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to start rolling out payments bank services in the country. Earlier it, among 10 others, had received in-principle approval from the apex bank to start a payments bank. Final approval was awaited.

“Today, Reserve Bank of India gave permission to formally launch Paytm Payments Bank. We can’t wait to bring it in front of you,” wrote Paytm Founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma in the company’s blog.

Among the 11 licensees only Bharti Airtel has started offering the payments bank services. A payments bank offers almost all the services offered by a traditional bank except the credit related solutions like loans or credit cards.

“At Paytm Payments Bank, our aim is to build a new business model in banking industry, focused on bringing financial services to 100’s of millions of un-served or underserved Indians,” Sharma says.

“With power of technology and innovation-at-scale, we aim to become a benchmark in world of banking,” he adds.

And we believe he can do this. We already have a bright example in Paytm.

The mobile wallet was started exactly three years from today but because of dedication to offer the best mobile wallet service coupled with Sharma’s vision and leadership, Paytm, in India, has created a benchmark in digital payment. It’s almost synonymous with digital or cashless payment.

“From villages to cities, from corner vegetable stalls to milk booths, small shops to large retailers, everyone embraced the new way to pay by Paytm,” he adds.

With the grant of the final approval from the RBI, Sharma is just steps away from the formal launch.

“This is our chance to build something that every Indian can be proud of. No other role or responsibility means as much to me as the privilege of building Paytm Payments Bank, and I intend to take a full-time executive role in the Bank,” he writes further in his blog.
