Google India is supposed to launch its South Asia centric mobile wallet and payments app Tez on Monday, however, its official page has made everything about the product public two days prior to the official launch.
“Send money home to your family, split a dinner bill with friends, or pay the neighbourhood chaiwala. Make all payments big or small, directly from your bank account with Tez, Google’s new digital payment app for India,” Google write son its site.
The mobile app can be linked to one’s bank account and mobile number to make any sort of payment. The search engine major has partnered with major Indian banks like ICICI Bank, SBI, HDFC and Axis Bank besides supporting UPI payment method.
One unique feature of the app is you can send cash to a nearby Tez user without sharing your bank or phone number to the recipient. It uses location tracking and you can speak to your phone to transfer the money.
Tez, according to Google, has put in place all kind of security measures to make user’s transaction safe.
“The Tez Shield works 24/7 to help detect fraud, prevent hacking, and verify your identity. Each transaction is secured with your UPI PIN and the app is secured with a Google PIN or your screen lock method such as fingerprint,” the announcement says.
In terms of support, Google Tez offers phone, chat support apart from the help center. Also, the mobile app supports seven Indian languages including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil and Telgu, besides English, so that users of almost all major Indian languages can use the app with utmost ease.
In terms of merchants, it supports hundreds of such partners including RedBus, PVR, Domino’s Pizza and Jet Airways.
The company has also partnered with Indian smartphone makers like Lava and Micromax as well as with Nokia and Panasonic to offer Tez as a pre-installed app in their future smartphone models.
Along with the launch, Tez also came out with some offers that includes a chance to win Rs 1,00,000 every week.
Besides the consumer app, Google also launches the Tez app for businesses where merchants can use the app for receiving payment.
